This program aims to offer students an international training course under a collaborative study guidance system involving International Academia-Industry-NPO Collaborative Advisory Group. The course is conducted through a mix of remote and face-to-face engagement with both high-level international universities and research institutions, and also with international universities and research institutions in regions with environmental problems. In addition, real-time collaborative research with researchers in remote locations is conducted through the remote collaboration system. This system creates an environment in which students can apply themselves daily in the international field and build relationships of friendly competition with overseas researchers. The program aims to foster human resources who can link hardware technology for monitoring and controlling a “Real Environmental Space” with ICT technology that quantifies the causes and effects of environmental changes in an “Information Environmental Space,” and who can design and formulate new global environmental systems. Such systems would be able to detect gradual changes in the environment during normal times and use this information to respond to mid- to long-term environmental changes; in addition, they would build the capacity for immediate response to changes in emergency situations that bring sudden damage to the environment. These human resources will have the design skills and knowledge relating to environmental systems and social rules that target the two types of environmental change mentioned above (slow and rapid change) and also the social rules concerning environmental issues. Such men and women will also create global, multidisciplinary systems that integrate technology and social rules.
The International Academia-Industry-NPO Collaborative Advisory Group comprises more than three lecturers/experts from high-level international universities and research institutions and international universities and research institutions in regions with environmental problems. The group members share a close-knit relationship and conduct teaching and research. Through the international collaborative advisory network that makes use of the remote collaboration system, the International Academia-Industry-NPO Collaborative Network establishes a teaching and research system that is consistent from the freshman level to post-graduation follow-up and involves worldwide interaction on a daily basis. Thus, the network will foster leaders who can create multidisciplinary and practical global environmental systems. Making use of this coherent system, students can acquire the knowledge, skills, and research capabilities to design and build practical global environmental systems that span Real Environment Space and Information Environment Space and aspire to become leaders who create global environmental systems.

In this program, master’s and doctoral candidates are required to complete fieldwork and internship abroad for three months during the master’s course and a total of six months during the doctoral course. Individuals grow to possess international perspectives as they begin gaining overseas experience while in the master’s program. In addition to four partner institutes, including Princeton University in the United States, the University of Cambridge in England, Tampere University of Technology in Finland, and the United Nations Environment Programme (Asia Pacific Adaptation Network, or APAN), numerous locations for study exist, such as the National Electronic Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) in Thailand, the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Germany, the Electronic Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya (EEPIS) in Indonesia, Vietnam National University, and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand. Currently, 21 universities and research institutes exist, and the list continues to grow.
Students continuously develop their research projects by interacting with professors and researchers from international training organizations using a system that can intuitively operate and edit three-dimensional data over the Web, a remote conference system, and a system for multimedia sharing, analysis, and visualization. Students will be able to consolidate information, knowledge, and data concerning environmental research and perform joint work such as examining the results of data analysis and real-time sensor data, natural environment simulations, and the sharing and visualization of apparatus functions and assembly processes.
